LANDSCAPES     STILL LIFE     ARTBOOKS

Hi and thank you for visiting my online gallery.

I aim to inspire a sense of tranquility and respite through my paintings.

The continuing development and exploration of my work has enabled me to create a personal language both through the process of painting and through the subject matter.

The paintings develop out of some sort of relationship, an emotional response to the environment, a feeling, an unfolding of ideas, and memories.
The process of developing each painting holds the same importance as the influence the subject has on the final work. I draw my inspirations largely from observations of the landscape. Working from brief drawings, photography, observation and memory.

My conceptual concerns focus on the interplay between abstraction and reality. The burying and uncovering of layers reveal textures and spontaneous marks that become an accumulation of how the painting is constructed. This process of intuitive exploration allows me to find a unity or fullness that translates onto the canvas. It is a reflection of how nature’s landscapes are created, over time with many layers of life.

Working from my home based studio in Lennox Head, northern NSW, allows me to connect with the coastal heath land where I create works en plain air as well as in my studio.

In 2017 my painting Loneliness Fell Over The Hill was selected on the front cover the NRCG Annual Exhibition Booklet, and I have also been selected for a number of national Art Prizes, including being a finalist for the Ravenwoods Australian Women’s Arts Prize - Emerging Artist in Sydney, featuring ‘Burns Point Ferry’ (SOLD), pictured below.

Still life and the placement of treasured objects in the home has always been of interest to me.

In this series I have painted objects and flowers that surround me in her studio, my home, and from childhood memories. Painting these objects gives them an everlasting life and deepens my appreciation of these simples treasures.

These new works consist of small still life pieces created on up-cycled cork placemats. The cork substrate and still life genre are woven together with pieces of original cork forming part of the composition. Snippets of text harvested from old books add a quirky note to these vignettes.

All cork mats are sealed with 3 layers of sealant before painting. Finished works are given a final varnish. These small works sit beautifully on a shelf or hung on a small nail using the unique and stable hanging system on the back.

PAPER STONE MUD EXHIBITION 2019

Paper structures and Artists’ books

The Paper Stone Mud body of work including eco printing on paper,  paper structures and artists’ books has developed into a personal journey, uncovering a new artistic language. Artists’ books, book works or paper structures are a form of practice created as a way to display art works.

Eco printing on paper using local plant sourced materials has been part of the foundation for this body of work. A simple combination of leaves, paper, heat, water, experimentation and trust.

ADDITIONAL EXHIBITIONS

Other NSW exhibitions include; First Light, Homage to Home, and Misty Moments
