Working from my home based studio in Lennox Head, northern NSW, allows me to connect with the coastal heath land where I create works en plain air as well as in my studio.
The process of developing each painting holds the same importance as the influence the subject has on the final work. I draw my inspirations largely from observations of the landscape, working from brief drawings, photography, observation and memory. My conceptual concerns focus on the interplay between abstraction and reality. The burying and uncovering of layers reveal textures and spontaneous marks that become an accumulation of how the painting is constructed. This process of intuitive exploration allows me to find a unity or fullness that translates onto the canvas. It is a reflection of how nature’s landscapes are created, over time with many layers of life. |
